History

History

1970 Some members of the inquiry commission concerning Agricultural Sciences in the Ministry of Education had started investigating the possibility of establishing graduate schools which offer doctoral course programs on a new concept, and discussed the united graduate school based on several universities.
1977 The concept of combining universities into a single organization was proposed to establish United Graduate Schools of Agricultural and Fisheries Science, joining 23 Universities and 27 Faculties.
1978 The office for establishing tentatively named "The United Graduate School of Agricultural and Fisheries Science" was set up on the campus of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Fuchu, Tokyo.
1985 Two united graduate schools of doctoral course in second half of three years (three year doctoral course) were established by the related laws enforcement. One is called "United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (UGSAS, TU.A&T)", which consists of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Ibaraki University, and Utsunomiya University. The other one is called "United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Ehime University (UGSAS, EU)", which consists of Kagawa University, Kochi University and Ehime University.
1987 "United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Kagoshima University (UGSAS, KU)", which consists of Saga University, Miyazaki University and Kagoshima University, was established.
1989 "United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tottori University (UGSAS, TU)", which consists of Shimane University, Yamaguchi University and Tottori University, was established.
1990 "United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Iwate University (UGSAS, IU)", which consists of Hirosaki University, Yamagata University, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Iwate University, was established.
1991 "United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Gifu University (UGSAS, GU)", which consists of Shizuoka University, Shinshu University and Gifu University, was established.
1992 University of the Ryukyus participated in UGSAS, KU.
2007 UGSAS, KU was reestablished consisting of four graduate programs from three universities, Kagoshima University, Saga University, and University of the Ryukyus.
2010 UGSAS, GU was reestablished consisting of Shizuoka University and Gifu University.
2018 UGSAS, IU was reestablished consisting of Hirosaki University and Yamagata University.
